Baby Turtles.

We have some new little additions to our family........

Hiding in the sand and in a damp little tissue paper nest is two tiny little turtle eggs. Unfortunately they are not from our useless turtles that would not know what laying eggs meant.
Long story short. The kids sell fish from my parents goldfish farm as a bit of pocket money for swimming lessons and to play junior soccer.
So an older lady came to pick up some tadpoles and goldfish the other day and while here we got talking about turtles. Turns out her turtle had been thining baout laying eggs and she asked if it ever eventuates into anything would we like the eggs. So the following day we got a call to say that she had two little eggs ready for us to pick up and incubate.

it is a bit of a trial and error to see what happens. But if they were left in the sand with the turtles they would more than likely die as it would get too cold for them.
We are currently keeping them at about 27-30 deg at all times in damp sand in the hope they develop and hatch.
We have to wait 3 months to see if they turn out to first be fertilised and secondly to see if they are living. Being left in a cold sand box over night may not have done any good. but time will tell.

We should see the eggs change shape and become a little flatter over time and if they are dead then the eggs will grow a little mould. So here is hoping our little babies hatch and we get a cute little turtle or two to add to out turtle family.

Miss3 and Mr2 are very excited and keep wanting to peep at the eggs to see if they have hatched. 3 months is going to be a long time waiting.

Will keep you all posted with updates.
